Hotel Gemma, via Castaglione: 35€ per night for a single room (+1.00€ City Tax) including breakfast (Date of Stay: Late September 2017).
Hotel Gemma is situated between Casamicciola and Ischia Porto.
On arriving at the family-run Hotel Gemma, I was warmly welcomed by the friendly receptionist (and son) Domenico, and immediately upgraded to a double room. My room was clean, had a very comfortable double bed and a good size bathroom. The spacious balcony looked over the large swimming pool and small thermal pool, and contained a sunbed, deck chair, table and chairs, and a clothes airer with plenty of room for drying towels etc. As well as curtains, there was also a pull-down metal blind on the balcony doors for extra security and sun-block should I have required it.
The bathroom was a good size, and small complimentary packets of soap and shower gel were provided. The shower was spacious and powerful. The hot water took a little while to come through, but once it did, it was lovely! There was excellent wi-fi inside the room, as well as the reception area.
There was a bar and restaurant area on the first floor. Breakfast was excellent value: cereal, fresh bread, jam, yogurt, ham, cheese, fruit and pastries, as well as a delicious omelette cooked to order! There is also the option to have dinner at Hotel Gemma at an extra charge.
There are two thermal parks within walking distance of Hotel Gemma (Castiglione Thermal Park and O’Vagnitiello Hydrotherapy Park), which many of the hotel guests seemed to be visiting.
There is a bus stop 50 metres from the hotel entrance, and the lively Ischia Porto is just a 3 minute bus journey away.
