Eden Park Hotel, Forio: 56€ per night for a single (+1.50€ City Tax) including breakfast (Date of Stay: Late September 2017).

On arrival at the hotel, I was upgraded to a large double room, at no extra charge, which was a wonderful welcome gift! I enjoyed my stay at this friendly hotel. The staff were very welcoming, and made me feel valued as a guest. The night receptionist, and Gaetano the day receptionist were both super-friendly. The swimming pool was a good size, although rather cold, and there were always plenty of sunbeds and sunshades available. There was even a small thermal pool (which is emptied and re-filled daily), a nice little pool bar, and a lounge bar near the reception area.

Breakfast was good value and consisted of fresh bread, jam, cereals, ham, salami, cheese, yoghurt, pastries, and even a homemade fruit tart every morning.
My room had a good-sized balcony with a table and chairs, and rails and pegs to dry towels etc. The balcony doors were double-glazed and had external wooden shutters. Wi-fi was available in the lounge and reception area, but not in the guest rooms. If you have any valuables, you can rent a safety deposit box in the reception area.

The bathroom was clean, and small packets of soap and shower gel were provided, along with towels. The shower cubicle was small, but the shower was powerful. I was woken a few times by my neighbour flushing the toilet, but I think the toilet cistern in my bathroom was equally as loud!

There was no lift in the hotel, but one is being installed this Winter (along with a roof-terrace), so from Spring 2018 this hotel will appeal to mobility-challenged guests too. There is already a ramp fitted next to the hotel entrance steps (not shown in the website photo). Guests also had the option to eat dinner at the hotel for an extra charge, although I chose to eat out.

There was a bus stop directly outside the hotel, which saved a lot of walking. If you do decide to walk along the road, be very careful, as there isn’t always a footpath, and the roads can be very busy with erratic drivers! You have been warned!

Forio is approx a 3 minute bus ride from Eden Park Hotel. Here you can find a large selection of restaurants, bars, shops and gelaterias (ice cream parlours). Alternatively approx. 7 minutes’ bus ride in the other direction will bring you to Ischia Porto. This is a large bustling town with even more restaurants, bars, shops and gelaterias. You can also catch a ferry to Naples, Sorento, or the neighbouring islands of Procida and Capri from here.

When in Ischia… drink Prosecco of course!
